School Meals during the 2020 - 2021 school year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has completely altered school cafeterias’ traditional way of operating.

During our fall semester, breakfast and lunch will be served to all in-person learners at school and take-home meals will be provided for days when they are learning from home. Students will still find their same favorite foods being offered; however, choices may be limited as we all adjust to this new way of operating. All meals will be offered to all students at no cost.

While at school, instead of eating in their cafeterias, students can instead look forward to breakfast and lunch in their classrooms.

Breakfast
Depending on the school your child attends, breakfast meals will either be delivered directly to the classroom or will be made available to pick-up at building entrances.

Lunch
Depending on the school your child attends, lunch meals will either be delivered directly to the classroom, or will be picked up from the traditional cafeteria line and carried back to the classroom to eat.

Also, all in-person learners will be provided with take-home meals to cover the days that they are learning from home.

PK-3rd grade
In-person learners in grades PK-3 will receive both breakfast and lunch meals at school and will be provided with take-home meals on Tuesday afternoon to cover their remote learning day on Wednesday.

4th-12th grade
In-person learners in grades 4th -12th will receive both breakfast and lunch meals at school and will be provided with take-home meals on the afternoons that they attend school to cover their remote days.

We ask they parents be on the lookout for these take-home meals as some food items may require immediate refrigeration and proper food storage. Food safety guidelines and at-home heating instructions are being provided on the division’s website under the School Nutrition Tab.

Students will continue to have the option to add money to their cafeteria accounts in order to purchase extra food items, but in an effort to reduce the spread of germs, we are asking that parents add money to their children’s cafeteria account by paying on-line via MySchoolBucks instead of sending in cash.

Students learning 100% remotely may pick up a week's worth of meals on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. from any Pittsylvania County School; however, signing up for these meals is required. To sign up, please use the following link or access the link on the division’s website under the Parents Tab. Meals for 100% remote leaners must be requested using this on-line form only to ensure food availability.

We encourage families to participate in the school meal program. School meals are a great way for students to connect with something familiar from school, even if they are learning remotely. School meals will continue to provide students a healthful balance of foods. All menus will be posted at this link or you can access the link on the division’s website under the School Nutrition Tab. Thank you for your support.
