Mrs. Felita Atkins

Welcome to Brosville Elementary School, “Where Children Come First.” We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure your child can achieve his/her highest potential.  We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need the support of both home and school.  We know that a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.   As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our best to meet our responsibilities.  Together with parents, who serve as good role models for their child/children, we can help each child achieve successful academic goals and ensure a good foundation for even greater success as they grow into productive individuals.

It’s important to remember that you, as parents, are your child’s first teacher!  We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

  • Completes all homework assignments given by teachers in  a well-lighted space that is quiet and free of distractions to boost concentration and help your child to focus on the task at hand

  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills with frequent visits to the local library

  • Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life. Allow for discussion about the daily events of his/her day and encourage your child’s efforts.  Be available for questions.

  • Limits the amount of television viewed by establishing a schedule

  • Works independently and informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area of subject

Always keep communication with school open.  Stay informed about what is going on at school and call the school if you have questions or there is a problem (434-685-7787).  Be proactive!

When children receive praise and encouragement, this helps to cultivate a warm and supporting home atmosphere and supports the school’s efforts to teach your child.  Parents are key players in developing a child’s motivation and instilling confidence to become a successful learner

Please consider joining our school volunteer program as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its daily operations.  Volunteers are needed to help us with the following activities:

  • Teacher-led instructional support, usually in the classroom (Requires  Level 1 or 2 Clearance)

  • Copying, cutting, laminating and correlating instructional materials

  • Field trips (Require Level 1 or 2 Clearance)

  • School-wide events such as;  Book Fair, Fall Carnival, Field Day, PTO Sponsored Activities

Our wonderful Brosville Elementary School Staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family and to have you share your child/children with us.  We encourage you to continue strengthening the home/school/community connection because this is what it takes to produce wonderful children who make us all proud!
